Clever Curl™ Long Hold Gel

Clever Curl™ Long Hold Curl Gel is a very soft-hold styling gel designed to support curl definition while leaving the hair flexible and touchable.

Despite the name, in my own salon and personal testing I have found the hold to be considerably softer than expected. Clever Curl describes it as providing long-lasting curl definition, humidity protection and extended curl longevity; however, my experience so far has been of a lightweight gel with minimal cast and very soft hold.

For that reason, I would choose this gel specifically when softness, movement and gentle definition are more important to you than strong or multi-day hold.

• I need to make an important distinction between the product name and my own experience of this gel. Clever Curl calls this Long Hold Curl Gel and describes it as providing long-lasting definition. Having now trialled it myself, I would personally categorise it as a very soft-hold gel lotion.

• Where I can see its place is for someone whose hair already has a strong natural curl formation and who wants some very gentle support and definition without sacrificing movement or softness.

• Clever Curl specifically formulated this gel not to form a cast. If you dislike the firmer or crunchy cast created by some gels while drying, that may be one of its attractions.

• If multi-day definition or stronger humidity resistance is your priority, I would look at some of the other styling gels available at Curls Naturally instead.

• As always, styling products behave differently according to strand width, density, condition, environment and technique. My assessment is based on my own use and professional experience, rather than the manufacturer's hold description alone.

DIRECTIONS:
Apply after your leave-in routine, if you use one.

Distribute evenly through thoroughly wet hair using your preferred styling technique, such as raking or praying hands.

Gently scrunch to encourage curl formation.

Allow to air dry naturally or diffuse using a low heat setting.
