4.5cm Metal Pin Clips (aka. Root Clips)

$2.00 - $4.00

Metal Pin Clips, also known as Root Clips, are handy little clips which can hold hair in place, for a variety of styling outcomes. They are particularly good as a tool for bespoke, targeted setting of individual curl formations.

DONNA'S TIPS:
For targeted trouble-shooting, find your need below.
In a general sense they can be used on wet hair, damp hair, and even dry hair, to get a desired effect.
For best results, use them on hair that has styling product already at work on the hair.
Try dipping the prongs of each clip into gel before clipping the hair, for added hold.
They can also be used in conjunction with the Pik Me Up combs.

Their effectiveness will depend to an extent on the responsiveness of your hair strands to setting techniques. Some hair types are very strongly textured (and this can be either straight, wavy, curly or coily) and are more resistant to setting techniques. Other hair types are extremely responsive to setting techniques.

Take care when removing, as the little hinges can snag a hair if you are not careful. Ensure your fingertips have clear access to the clip, when removing it.

IF YOUR CURLS TEND TO PLASTER TO THE SCALP
Use the clips to create lift at the roots by doing rainbow clipping technique (see photos).

IF YOU HAVE WAVES AND WANT MORE TEXTURE
Use the clips to lift all across your hair by doing the rainbow clipping technique (see photos).

IF WISH TO DISGUISE SILVER RE-GROWTH
Use the clips to bring together each side of your part-line, so that the hair at the part-line sits higher than it would have otherwise.

IF YOU WISH TO CREATE LIFT AND DIRECTION AT THE HAIRLINE
After applying styling product to your hair and getting prepared for the setting stage, look up and allow all hair to fall in a backwards direction. Slide the clips in from your forehead backwards into the hair, collecting as much or as little hair as you like in the sliding motion of the clip.

IF YOU WISH TO ELONGATE ANY INDIVIDUAL CURLS
Clip one clip onto the end of the curl family to act as a weighted end, and leave to dry. This temporary technique is not intended to be a way to straighten or stretch your hair, but simply a way to get one or two curls to become that little bit longer for the set that you want that day.

IF YOU HAVE MINIMAL LAYERS AND FIND THAT YOUR CURLY HAIR BECOMES TRIANGULAR IN SHAPE WHN DRY
Use the clips to lift small amounts of hair formations at the scalp. This evens out the shape and gives you height as well as the natural volume that comes more naturally at the end lengths.

IF YOU FIND THAT YOUR FINE HAIR STRANDS BECOME WEIGHED DOWN WITH WATER
Remove excess water from your hair, apply your styling product and clip at the roots.

IF YOU FIND THAT YOUR WET HAIR IS EXTREMELY HEAVY DUE TO DENSITY AND LENGTH
Clip at the roots to alleviate the weight while drying.
